I source these rebozos from Oaxaca in Mexico – these specific ones are all made by one family called the Garcías.

Faja / Womb Belt / Back Support Belt – Long, Medium-Weight

These traditional Fajas or Womb Belts are made out of double cotton fabric by artisans in Oaxaca in Mexico, to the design of the Colombian Chumbe. They wrap several times around the hips and the ends can then be tucked in or they can be tied with the plaits. The thick fabric has been woven on a pedal loom out of cotton, and the pieces are then sewn together from the edges to make it double the thickness of a normal rebozo – and have it give double the support!

The length is around 2.8m, plus the plaits/fringes (which make tying easy), and around 15cm wide. These ones are a medium-weight: they weigh around 280-300gram.

They are made to bring comfort, support and protection – traditionally they are used as a protection for the energy center (known to different cultures under the various names of dharan, dan tien, hara, navel point — much like a kamarkassa (cummerbund) in Indian traditions, or a martial arts belt in other Asian traditions) and are part of Latin American traditional attire.

Physically they help enormously with back pain and sciatic pain / sciatica, and are also a great support when working in the garden, on your allotment, etc.

The thick fabric gives warmth to the kidneys, which also greatly helps with adrenal fatigue and burnout.

Several of the above reasons also make them perfect for men to use (my husband wears one every day, he has 3 of his own!).

For women, using a faja brings tremendous nurturing support and warmth to the pelvic organs and kidneys while menstruating, when pregnant (they are tied underneath the bump for support under the bump and on the pelvis, helping with pelvic pain, lower back pain, pubic bone pain, helping to maintain an ergonomic posture …), during the postpartum, during a miscarriage, for endometriosis pains, after a hysterectomy, when struggling with a UTI, …

They also give profound support for anyone struggling with anxiety or going through grief, literally keeping you together and from unravelling.

When people try them on at mine, I’m always met with a look of profound disbelief and the question: “Where has this been my whole life?” or “How is this possible?” — you almost really have to try them to understand what a difference they make on so many levels.

These deluxe close weave rebozos come in a range of lengths; currently I have 2.5m, 2.6m and 3m in stock (with a 15-20 cm fringe on either side). Width for these is 65-70cm.

These feel a bit thicker than the other rebozos in the shop, and a bit softer too. This makes them the very favourite baby carrier for lots of mums.

I source these rebozos from Oaxaca in Mexico, from a couple of different weavers.

I can get these same rebozos woven in a range of colours and a range of lengths starting from 2m.

These rhomboid close weave (‘tupido’) 2-colour rebozos are 2.6 to 2.7 m long (with a 15 cm fringe on either side). Width for all these is 60-65 cm.

I source these specific rebozos from the Aguilar family in Mexico, who have been offering artisanal items in Mexico since 1970. The family personally dies their pieces using plant colourings.

Open Weave Rebozo 1.5-1.8m meter single colour

These shortest open weave or ‘drawn-work’ (‘deshilado’) rebozo measure 60cm x a length of 150cm up to 180cm (with an added 15cm of hand-knotted fringe on either side) and weigh 200-250 grams each, depending on the length. They come in different colours, and are died using plant colourings. I only source 100% cotton woven rebozos as these work better for Closing the Bones work and support during pregnancy. Elsewhere in the shop you’ll also find open weaves in other sizes: 2m, 2.5m and 2.6-2.7m.

When a colour variation states ‘Available on back-order’, the actual shade can still be different from the one pictured. If you want to be absolutely sure about the colour, please only order what is indicated as ‘in stock’ or come and check back in the next weeks, as the ones ‘on back-order’ will then have arrived (these are always Rebozos that are on their way from Mexico at that point).

These shorter and lighter versions of traditional Fajas or Womb Belts are made out of double cotton fabric by artisans in Oaxaca in Mexico, to the design of the Colombian Chumbe. They wrap twice around the hips and can then be tied with the plaits. The Rebozo fabric has been woven on a pedal loom out of cotton, and the pieces are then sewn together from the edges to make it double the thickness of a normal rebozo – and have it give double the support!

The length for these shorter versions is 180cm, plus about 35cm for each of the plaits (which make tying easy), and around 15cm wide. While the thicker fajas weigh around 550-600gram, these shorter ones are also much lighter and weigh just about 200gram. This makes them less bulky and easier to take with you, while still giving great support.
