These 1.8m close weave (‘tupido’) 100% cotton rebozos were woven with a line-pattern on a waist loom in Oaxaca, Mexico. They combine a natural white thread (from which the tassels are also tied) with black thread on the warp, and then one of 6 colour options: red, yellow, green, blue, purple or pink.
They are all 180cm long (with an additional 18 cm fringe in natural cotton on either side), on a width of 63 cm.
As all of these rebozos have clearer ‘warp line’ markings than the other Rebozos in my store, they are priced lower. Rebozos are all artisanal pieces and ultimately all can contain some weavers knots, pulls, … – i.e. signs that they are handwork rather than ‘damages’. Slight changes in colour or size might e.g. also be due the change in the thread lots and as the rebozos are handmade by various artisans. Each rebozo, in the end, is a completely unique piece.
However, sometimes I receive rebozos from the weaver cooperatives where some of these signs are more noticeable – the quality of weave is exactly the same, and there is no effect whatsoever on the use, but they are visually more noticeable.
That is the case with this lot of rebozos as I’m also clearly showing in the pictures – they all have some white lines running vertically through the weave on (only one) side of the rebozo, and some show a vertical line too. (These are minor visual flaws created at the time when the warp was made, and all pieces made on that warp will show these lines.)
