Silver Leaf Jasper

Jasper gemstones are found all over the world, but Silver Leaf Jasper is found particularly in Africa and Russia. It is a beautiful combination of subtle greys, silver-greens, blacks, red-browns and whites in swirling patterns – it ‘breathes’ natural sophistication.

With its balance of colors, silver leaf jasper is a stone that promotes balance. It provides strength of purpose, promotes stability and–like all jaspers–is a grounding stone and is often used for healing purposes. During meditation, it is believed to awaken its holders to a sense of joy. Like all black/grey stones, silver leaf jasper also encourages willpower, determination and stamina. It’s worn by independent, highly disciplined people–or by people who aren’t highly disciplined but would like to be. Reiki practitioners have been known to use silver leaf jasper as a wholistic or whole-body wellness stone.

Silver Leaf Jasper is an excellent protection stone, especially for travellers (in the physical sense as well as astral travellers). It is a beautiful healing crystal and instills a feeling of wholeness, serenity and being cared for, looked after and nurtured.

It also aids mental clarity and mental functioning.

Physically, Silver Leaf Jasper acts as an energetic tonic for anyone recovering from long term illness and boosts the immune system. It assists the body to restore cellular tissue and has an affinity for restructuring both muscular and cellular tissue. It can be useful in treating urinary system issues, lower digestive system issues and reproductive system tissue dysfunction. It also harmonises mineral assimilation. Historically, Silver Leaf Jasper has been used as the base for energy boosting tonics and elixirs.

Jasper (general)

Jaspers have been revered by ancient peoples and civilizations throughout the world as sacred and powerful stones of protection, for both the physical and spiritual realm. They were known as the “rain bringers” and supreme nurturers, healers of the spirit and stones of courage and wisdom. The name can be traced back in Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Assyrian, Greek and Latin, and the virtues of Jaspers have been extolled throughout the ages by the most noted physicians, magicians, poets, scientists, lapidaries and scholars.

Jasper is an opaque chalcedony that comes in a wide variety of colors. When we trace the term “jasper” back to the Greek work iaspi, it means “spotted stone.” Jasper is a gemstone that has been used all over the world. The ancient priests of Egypt carved jasper into beautiful jewelry while the Minoans used jasper for seals. Its one-of-a-kind patterns have made it widely popular since antiquity when it was also used for amulets against drought. While jasper is widely available today, the gemstone was once treasured as a valuable stone.

All Jaspers connect to the Earth and may be placed on the Base Chakra to stabilize and energize the physical body. Laying it over each chakra in turn, will cleanse, boost and realign the chakras and aura, balancing yin and yang energies as well as aligning the physical, emotional and mental bodies with the etheric realm, unifying all aspects of our life. All Jaspers also absorb negative energy and are able to support you during times of stress by providing tranquility. Jaspers remind people that we are all here to help one another. They provide protection and grounding energy for the physical body. All Jaspers also promote determination, helping you to tackle challenges assertively and face your truth with honesty.

Jaspers help with quick thinking, organizational skills, and the imagination, allowing you to transform your ideas into action.

Verawood (aka Palo Santo, aka Green Sandalwood (Lignum Vitae ‘Wood of Life’))

Green Verawood is known around the world under many names. It’s known as Palo Santo in Spanish (‘Holy Wood’) or well-known also as Green Sandalwood (as it has a distinct natural fragrance like Sandalwood), and it’s also known as the ‘Wood of Life’, after its Latin name Lignum Vitae.

This world-famous wood is produced in tropical rainforests of Latin America, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina and Paraguay. These beads come from sustainable sourced Verawood — it’s a wood that is endangered, as it grows very slowly and has a very limited natural stock, and its export is strongly regulated.

The original colour of Verawood is pale yellowish brown. It darkens under sunlight and turns to forest green – and as the wood (/beads) ages, it becomes more green. Verawood has a distinct, perfume-like fragrance (that many will know from the various uses of Palo Santo oil, the oil that is distilled from this wood) that will longer around you as you wear or use the mala. The beads have beautiful and vivid patterns.

Verawood’s properties pertain to cleansing negative energies and protecting from them, inducing meditative states (especially through its fragrance), helping with focus – great for ADHD, brain fog, pregnancy/mom brain and perimenopausal brain – , providing greater insights and assisting with physical, mental and emotional healing. The beads are said to bless the wearer with peace and healing, and because the wood (and any carvings from it) was considered very auspicious, it was extremely popular in e.g. the courts of the Qing Dynasty in China.

Verawood is also known to absorb toxins and pull them out of the body.

All Agates

Agate is the name given to numerous varieties of banded Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. Its name comes from the Achetes River in Sicily, where Agates were first found. Usually banded in layers, or stripes, some varieties have “eye” markings, or specks of color, some have fossilized inclusions, and others are solid. Called the earth rainbow, the concentric bands of Agate form in nearly every color the earth can produce, including a colorless form.

The world of Agates is a fascinating and ever evolving place. There are hundreds, if not thousands of types of agates. They are found around the world. They bring a wonder and magic to the planet with their swirls of color bands.

Historically, Agate has been discovered with the artifacts of Neolithic people, and was used as healing amulets and ornamentation dating back to Babylon. Its medicinal uses continued through the ancient Greek and Egyptian civilizations, and spread throughout Africa and the Middle East into Russia.

Metaphysically, Agate has a lower intensity and vibrates to a slower frequency than other stones, but is highly regarded as a stabilizing and strengthening influence. The layered bands of microscopic quartz in Agate may appear delicate, they are actually very strong. Agate is excellent for balancing emotional, physical and intellectual energy, and in harmonizing yin and yang, the positive and negative forces of the universe.

Agate promotes inner stability, composure, and maturity. Its warm, protective properties encourage security and self-confidence. It is a great crystal to use during pregnancy. Agate also helps new mothers avoid the “baby blues” sometimes experienced after giving birth, and an Agate jewel worn between the breasts encourages lactation.

Agate stops the burning desires for things we do not need, and assists those juggling commitments or multiple jobs. It helps writers express ideas in marketable form, and helps young children learn to walk and not fall as they get older. Agate also promotes marital fidelity.

Agate is useful as a protection amulet when traveling and is said to prevent accidents.

Agate enhances mental function by improving concentration, perception, and analytical abilities.

Placed on the abdomen, Agate stimulates the digestive system and relieves gastritis. It is beneficial for the eyes, hollow organs such as the stomach, uterus, intestines, etc., and heals skin disorders and itching due to insect bites.

Agate is helpful to the heart and blood vessels. Wearing an Agate in the middle of the chest strengthens the cardiac muscle, and heals emotional disharmony that prevents acceptance of love.

A cold Agate placed on the forehead is generally effective in curing fever. (If the fever returns, however, consult a doctor.) Agate may also reduce the symptoms of epilepsy, and for some people guards against sleepwalking.

Agate encourages a sense of reality and pragmatic thinking. Agates with regular designs soothe those who desire peace and harmony, while those with irregular designs can stimulate action and important decision making.

Agate is beneficial in self-analysis and uncovering hidden circumstances that might interfere with well-being. It promotes self-acceptance and confidence, encouraging the speaking of one’s own truth. Agate overcomes negativity and bitterness of the heart, by healing anger, fostering love, and lending the courage to start over. It is useful for any kind of trauma.

Agate stabilizes the aura, eliminating and transforming negative energies. Its cleansing effect is powerful at all levels

Agate raises awareness and links into the collective consciousness of the oneness of life. It encourages quiet contemplation of one’s life experiences that lead to spiritual growth and inner stability.

Agate provides a wide variety of crystal formations conducive for meditation focus. The intricate movements within the crystal encourage a calm, relaxing state and open the mind to higher thought and inner truths.

Black Onyx

Onyx is a most ancient stone, known and utilized by even the earliest civilizations for its powerful energy and sombre beauty. This deep black stone often ribboned with white, (unless the beads are made just out of the black part, like the one used here), was highly prized for use in ceremonies and burials, scrying and magical work, and as amulets on swords, shields and armour to protect and strengthen warriors in battle. Many cultures, including the Greeks and Romans, utilized Onyx and its counterpart, the brownish-red Sardonyx, to carve figures of the gods and heroes in cameos and intaglio engravings, to make stamps and seals, stone inlays and tiles, and as handles and bases for goldwork. Onyx is referenced in numerous historical manuscripts and sacred texts, and is the first precious stone named in the Bible, described in Genesis as an element of creation. It resided with gold and the fragrant resin bdellium in the land of Havilah, an area surrounded by the Pishon River that flowed from the garden of Eden.

While Onyx was revered in many cultures, it was feared in others, considered to be “a bad luck stone” that caused black bile to circulate, especially within the mind. It was believed to invoke sadness and despondency, abrupt changes in mood, and make one angry and difficult. It could separate lovers, sow family discord, and expose one to the assaults of demons, bringing dreadful visions by night, quarrels and lawsuits by day. It was so feared in China, only slaves and menial laborers with no other way to make a living would go into the mines to extract it, where it was then carried out of the country and sold in other lands. The only preventative to these calamities was to also wear a Sard stone, most notably a Sardonyx, to neutralize the influence of the Onyx.

Over the centuries, metaphysical practitioners have come to appreciate the contradictory powers of Onyx and have learned to harness even its negative traits to achieve positive results. It integrates dualities within the Self, and is perhaps the best talisman of Strength and Self-mastery on the planet. This stone connects to the body, to belonging to the earth and family, and putting down roots. It is grounding and stable, taking aggressive energies and using them to build up physical and mental strength, persistence and endurance, helping one to be master of one’s own destiny and to keep one’s own counsel. Yet Onyx also provides the centering and alignment of one’s total being in order to connect to a Higher power for guidance, and absorb from the universe that which is needed. Onyx is reputed to hold physical memories of the wearer within its structure and, if worn too long, can generate depression or re-living the pain of old injury or trauma. However, with work and proper intent, it can be called upon to banish grief and release pain from physical or emotional wounds, and to draw in happiness and good fortune. It is a marvelous stone for wise decision-making and amplifying intuitive gifts, especially instinctual sentience.

Wear or carry Onyx as a personal amulet of protection to keep senses keen and instincts sharp, whether traversing a desolate street at night, fighting fears associated with bullying or terrorism, or as a protective shield during psychic endeavours. Place an Onyx in the workplace to deflect others’ negative thoughts or criticism, and for effective defence against those who are manipulative or argumentative. Rest an Onyx on a nightstand with the intent of protection against nightmares and fears associated with the dark.

Draw on Onyx for physical strength after a long illness, prolonged work project, demanding exercise or weight loss program, or any situation that depletes one’s resources. It aids the retention of energies rather than allowing them to dissipate, enabling one to build up vigour and vitality, stamina, and focus. Onyx boosts self-confidence and assertion while bringing reason to passion, and is an excellent stone to carry into conflict situations where a cool head is needed.

Onyx is an excellent stone for stimulating intuitive powers and furthers the quality of sentience. It is highly effective for magical work, such as scrying, and because it retains memories of its wearer, is an excellent stone for psychometry, holding an object for a reading. Onyx is particularly empowering for those working to develop their telekinetic abilities.

Onyx is reputed to improve function of the nerves and enhance the sensory organs, especially those associated with the ear. They are believed to sharpen hearing, assist in problems or diseases of the inner ear, and aid in treatments for tinnitus.

Onyx is credited with strengthening the immune system, providing stamina and vitality to the body, and preventing relapses after illnesses, and is thought to improve cell regeneration and the regulation of fluids, and to aid in the absorption of nutrients and elimination of wastes.

Onyx is considered beneficial for the teeth and bones, and supports disorders relating to bone marrow and soft tissue structures. Onyx is particularly invigorating for the feet, and supports their connection to the Root Chakra. This may be helpful for those who suffer from weak legs, or have difficulty grounding excess energies.

Onyx grounds and stabilizes the emotional body, bringing strength in difficult or confusing circumstances and during times of tremendous mental or physical stress. It calms nervousness, quells anxiety and fear, soothes tempers and restores rational thinking and self-control. It emanates the energy of self-mastery, imparting self-confidence, focus, ease in one’s surrounding, and the gift of wise decision making. It lets flighty personalities move into a more stable way of life, and helps one explore new ideas, as well as to carry out even dreary tasks to completion.

Onyx is a stone of separation, and can be helpful in recognizing old habits or relationships that need to be re-evaluated or released, and brings the inner strength needed to let go. It is a support stone for grief and denial, and assists one during the emotional processes of mourning, acceptance, and moving forward.

The black hues of Onyx stimulate the Earthstar and Base Chakras. The Earthstar Chakra is located between and slightly below the feet. It holds the soul into carnation and creates a solid connection to the planet Earth, allowing excess and out-of-balance energies to flow from the body. The Base, or Root Chakra, is located at the base of the spine, and controls the energy for kinesthetic feeling and movement. It is the foundation of physical and spiritual energy for the body. When the Base Chakra is in balance, the physical body gains strength and stamina, and spiritual energy is rekindled in the form of security and sense of one’s own power. It often leads to independence and spontaneous leadership. White Onyx, on the other hand, activates the Crown Chakra, located at the top of the head. It is the gateway to the expanded universe beyond one’s body, and controls how one thinks and responds to the world. It is the fountainhead of one’s beliefs and the source of spirituality, and when the Crown is in balance one’s energies are in balance. It inspires one’s place in the universe and to see things as they are.

Black Onyx deepens our connection to the physical, natural world. It brings power and strength, relieving fears specifically associated with the physical existence here on Earth. Black Onyx offers protection and a retreat, the safety of being hidden from your enemies. White Onyx on the other hand can enhance spiritual vision and dream experiences, and facilitate connection with lunar energies.

Onyx teaches the appropriate use of power and focusing one’s energy and will into a positive force. It is an excellent tool for grounding and connecting with the electromagnetic energy of the Earth, as well as facilitating alignment with Higher powers for guidance and strength. Onyx may be used to stimulate the psychic senses and engenders a protective shield for those who offer spiritual counselling, tarot readings, channelling or mediumship, automatic writing, or any endeavour that opens one to psychic influences. It encourages one to feel safe in its presence and is a remarkable aid for past-life and between-lives regression to heal old wounds and physical trauma affecting the present life. White Onyx amplifies telepathic connection to one’s higher Self, and assists in tapping into the Akashic Records and opening to the angelic realm.

Onyx is an excellent aid for grounding and centering during meditation, and for connecting with Higher powers. It may be used to cleanse the mind in order to be more receptive to intuitive guidance, and provides a grounding influence when working with high-energy stones that produce extraordinary visions and insights but may over-activate one’s energy field.
